In the era of social networking and sms blasts, we are at the luxury of expressing anything anytime. Status updates, tweets, changing your display pictures to the tricolor, use the send to all option in your cell phones.....i can go on and on. I indulged in this expression of patriotism 2 days in a year myself until i realized that i have done nothing for my country yet.
Is desh ka kuch nahi ho sakta ??? Sach hai. Jab tak is desh ke logon ka kuch nahi ho sakta.....
We had the sense of patriotism till the time we were in schools. Singing the national anthem and the national song of india (how many of you reading this know the difference and who wrote them??) everyday. We studied our history for almost a decade, was it only restricted to our exam papers?? Did anything ever touched our souls??? Did the rich heritage of our nation destroyed by the British invoke anger??? Did the freedom struggle moisten our eyes ??? Did our heart wept for the freedom fighters who lost their lives to ensure we breathe the air of freedom today???
Now that we are grown ups, we are expected to be understanding patriotism on another level. The attitude of "jugaad", "ho jaayega", "karva lenge","politics toh gutter hai", "government chor hai", "ek aadmi se kya fark pad jaayega" ?????????????????? How many of us actually go out of our way to keep our cities clean??? How many of us actually go the legal way??? or even the morally right way??? How many of us actually respect the public properties??? How many of us actually vote??? I never did and i plead guilty. I bet my last penny that still many of us don't know who the President is, the first citizen of the nation.
Wearing indian attires on theses days, playing mere desh ki dharti in blaring decibels is not patriotism. Distributing flags and then throwing them like garbage when the day comes to an end is not patriotism. Sending messages about changing our nation is not patriotism.
How many of us actually know our nation? How many of us actually are patriots???
